Everyone is aware about the importance of media i.e. newspapers, magazines, radio, television, internet etc. Politicians, administrator, businessmen and even a common man looks media as a important link to fulfill its needs, goals and expectations. Media has become one of the important aspects of life for everybody in the society irrespective of its class.

 

Media, now a days has become a profession without institutional or professional code of conduct, a business, to earn only profit through even unethical ways, medium of popularity, entertainment, information without any focus or concern. Everyone wants to use media for its own purpose. Does media needs to have its own stand and ways to support development and human values. Some says yes, but today it has been limited to seminars and academics. The purpose has diffused and it has lost its meaning. The evil strengths in the society had created a fog in the social atmosphere making the very purpose of media invisible.

 

Media initiatives is a way to provide a platform for churning and deciding on many such issues. The media people has to decide on their role, with whom they really stand? Whom should they support? Is it right to support the corrupt and inefficient people and promote them in the society? What should be the ideal interrelationship between the media, government and the people?

 

Till date many discussions and workshops have been arranged and the questions were raised related to participation and honesty of media. Discussions are held on its reliability, focus and risks. Normally all these have also been discussed everywhere. But now a time has come to work on these strategies which were discussed and wished time to time. An effort shall continue for the betterment of media and society.

 

With this thought, 50  persons working for media came together in April 2005 in a meeting at the time of media conference organized by Brahmakumaris at mount Abu, Rajasthan, to start this effort and in Sept 2005 “Society of Media Initiatives for values” was formally formed with the certain objectives:
